Marketa Vondrousova defeated 2022 Wimbledon runner up Ons Jabeur in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-4 score to become the first unseeded woman to win the Women’s Wimbledon title. Vondrousova is also the fifth Cech woman to win a major women’s tennis title.
With the win, she is the first unseeded woman since Billie Jean King in 1963 to reach the final of the Wimbledon women’s final. All being said, Vondrousova is no stranger to the major tennis scene as she also reached the final of the French Open at Roland Garros in 2019. The Czech Wimbledon champion is coming off a year where she was sidelined with a left wrist injury.
Vondrousova trailed in both sets of the Women’s Final against Jabeur and converted six of the seven break point chances that she faced compared to Jabeur’s four of 10 conversion.
