American swimmer Katie Ledecky cemented her greatness atop the FINA World Championship mountain with her record breaking 16th gold medal after winning the Women’s 800m freestyle in Fukuoka, Japan. With the win, she passes fellow American Michael Phelps, who last set the record of 15 gold medals back in 2011.
The Ledecky’s 800m freestyle gold was her second gold medal of the 2023 event in Fukuoka, with the first coming in the 1500m freestyle event.
